Jeymes Samuel, is a BAFTA-winning British director, writer, producer and composer. For CAM Sugar he curated Spaghetti Western Collection.

Samuel, also known by his stage name The Bullitts, has notably worked with Jay Z and Baz Luhrmann on the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby (2013), where he served as Executive Music Consultant, and has collaborated with many international artists including Doja Cat, Talib Qweli and Jay Electronica. In 2021, his BAFTA-winning Western film The Harder They Fall (2021), starring Idris Elba and Regina King, massively contributed to updating the genre’s canons from the perspective of Black culture. With the same spirit, Jeymes Samuel has taken a deep dive into the CAM Sugar catalogue to explore the sound of Italian Western cinema (1963–1972). The surprising outcome is Spaghetti Western Collection: a selection of 20 hand-picked tracks that contribute to cast light on forgotten and previously unreleased film scores. The curatorial approach thus establishes a connection between the classic Italian Westerns of the past and today’s cinema. In the curator’s own words, “The collection is more than just a compilation. It’s a love letter to a genre that has changed the face of cinema and art, and that shaped my creative soul. The reason why those stories stood out is because they are stories of today.” To celebrate the lasting legacy of Italian Western cinema on contemporary music and culture, Samuel produced two new songs: one is a remix of one the album’s tracks, featuring vocals by Regina King, the other is an original composition, both included on an exclusive 10” vinyl in the album’s deluxe version.
