Piero Umiliani

Piero Umiliani (1926-2001) was one of the greatest Italian jazz musicians and refined exponents of Italian film music.

Enthralled by Duke Ellington, Umiliani immediately became a supporter and champion of the "new" music emanating from America. For the CAM Sugar catalogue, Umiliani crafted soundtracks of the highest standing, such as the daring masterpiece "Audace colpo dei soliti ignoti," composed and performed in collaboration with the legendary trumpeter Chet Baker. In his various compositions for CAM, spanning from B-movie films to Italian cinema cult classics like the captivating "Smog" by Franco Rossi, Umiliani never loses his unrestrained creativity, embarking on a staggering quest for electronic soundscapes, characterised by ethereal atmospheres.
