This unique score, de Roubaix composed and performed entirely thanks to the re-recording technique, at his home studio, recording himself on each track with a different instrument. At the request of filmmaker José Giovanni, de Roubaix found connections between the barrel organ and synthesizers, complemented by unusual effects from rattles, files, and springs. Faced with the result, Giovanni would express his enthusiasm: “I love this catchy and naive refrain, with its underground gravity.” The theme of La Scoumoune would emancipate itself from the movie, living its own life as a jingle or advertising tune, regularly sampled by artists from the new world, rappers, or DJs. This complete version of La Scoumoune is a way to celebrate the innovative and instinctive genius of François de Roubaix, for the 50th anniversary of his passing.
